Terri Martin

President

Terri Martin is a professional biologist soon to be retired from his position as Environmental Specialist in local government. His career has involved environmental policy and bylaw development, monitoring conservation covenants, bald eagle nest tree inventories, black brant monitoring and invasive plant contract management. In addition to his role with Coastal ISC, Terri is passionate about science-based sustainability and sits on the board of directors of the Qualicum Institute.

Wylie Thomas

Vice-President

Conservation, Stewardship and Non-Governmental Organizations

Wylie Thomas is a restoration practitioner and conservation biologist based in Victoria, BC. He brings a conservation perspective to the management of invasive species, which are the second biggest threat to biodiversity after habitat loss.

Wylie has a Diploma in Restoration of Natural Systems from the University of Victoria. He also has a B.Sc. in Biology from McGill, and a Master’s in Environmental Studies from York University. Wylie has been an active volunteer in invasives removal projects around the Victoria region since relocating from Toronto in 2008.

Craig Elder

Treasurer

Craig Elder is a retired Certified Management Accountant, previously working for BC Ferries in Finance and Strategic Planning and at the Islands Trust as Treasurer and Director of Administration. He has also served as volunteer treasurer for non-profit and charitable organizations.

Since 2012 Craig has volunteered extensively in the restoration of natural areas in Saanich, acting as Lead
Steward at Gorge Park and Swan Creek Park, and at  Cowichan River Provincial Park.

Barrie Agar

Barrie Agar help the position of Head Horticulturist at Royal Roads University.  She is now retired.

Raj Prasad

Director

Qualified Environment Professionals, Academia and Research

Dr Raj Prasad is an internationally known Weed Scientist, has been a Board Member of the Coastal Invasive Species Committee since its inception in 1990 and is a Co-Founder when it was a part of the GOERT (Garry Oak Ecosystem Research Team) affiliated to “The Garry Oak Society of Victoria”. Two other Scientists late Dr. George Edwards (Silviculturist) and Dr. Mike Meagher (Geneticist) and Dr. Prasad were concerned and researched on the Coastal Alien Invasive Plants affecting the endangered Garry Oaks (Quercus garryana) and thus the CISP was formed.
Several papers on the Ecology, Biology and Management of Scotch Broom, Gorse, English Ivy, Daphne, Hawkweeds, Blackberry, etc were published. Regular meetings and annual conferences were held and Proceedings were published at the Forest Centre attracting municipal, city park, provincial, federal and environmental workers. Then extra grants/ funds were donated or collected by the CISP to run its own activities by the hired staff.

Chelsey Toth

Chelsey Toth works in the natural resource sector, providing management expertise in silviculture, sustainability, and environmental stewardship in Coastal Forestry. As an Area Forester for Mosaic Forest Management, she is responsible for managing invasive and noxious weed data collection, mapping, treatment and monitoring. She plans and implements Integrated Pest Management (IMP) programs on southern Vancouver Island.

 

Andrew Fall

Mike Collyer

Mike Collyer is a Geomatics Coordinator with Parks Canada.

Jon Osbourne

Director

Conservation, Stewardship and Non-Governmental Organizations

Jon Osborne is a restoration practitioner and biologist based in Victoria BC, working primarily in Coastal Douglas Fir and Garry Oak and associated ecosystems around Southern Vancouver Island. While his work centres around mitigating the negative impacts that humans have on a variety of different species, most of his activities focus on the recovery of populations of rare and endangered plants through the removal of alien invasive species, where he manages federally funded programs to protect species at risk of extinction. He is passionate about fostering environmental stewardship through invasive species removal and restoration opportunities, which not only heal ecosystems and protect biodiversity, but also connect people to nature, each other, and their communities. He has a BSc in Biology from the University of Victoria.
